Cancer Causes & Can we Prevent Cancer?

When it comes to Cancer we all want to know what we can do to help prevent cancer. Asking the right questions involves knowing what options are out there and what treatments have worked for others. It’s important to do your own research as there’s often a lot of pressure to use the Radiation-Chemotherapy Surgery trilogy, and some may feel isolated if they feel there are other (not mutually exclusive) approaches. As you will see below, cancer research does show that the most cancers are due to lifestyle, and so it’s common sense that lifestyle changes can impact the progress as well as help prevent cancer.

The Human Genome Project & The Big Pharma Conflict

Following the genome project that completed in 2003, it was found that we do not have as many genes as scientists expected humans to have, and that most differences in our human protiens are caused by differing environments, which create a variety of expressions of the same gene… (see Genome Project ‘findings’)

This means we are not as genetically complex as we thought, and that the environment we put ourselves in is much more important and influential than we thought.

So… it would be natural to expect cancer treatment to follow this train of thought and experiment on how changing the environment that gave rise to cancer makes a difference to the expression of cancer.

Sadly, most cancer research is not going that way. Instead it’s investing heavily in developing more drug related therapy. The reason is that drugs can be patanted and profitted from. This is the financial reality behind research that gets funded – linked to potential profit in the future.

The Causes of Cancer

With cancer rates skyrocketing (currently 1 in 3) it’s important to self-educate. Research shows there are both genetic and environmental factors in the development of cancers in our bodies, and that only 5% are internal, i.e. related to our individual genetics.

The remaining 90-95% of the instances of cancer were related to environmental factors, and environmental factors can be changed with a change in lifestyle. See Texas University research Cancer is Preventable Disease that Requires Major Lifestyle Changes (1)

This provides us with great hope in our treatment and prevention of cancer as it seems we have a lot more power than we believed initially. It also provides a clear direction to work effectively towards minimising the impact of cancer.

The study showed that this would require a major lifestyle change to effectively reduce exposure to agents that cause cancer and increase exposure to agents that inhibit cancer (1).

The lifestyle factors include cigarette smoking, diet (fried foods, red meat), alcohol, sun exposure, environmental pollutants, infections, stress, obesity, and physical inactivity.

The study indicates that of all cancer-related deaths, almost 25–30% are tobacco related, as many as 30–35% are linked to diet, about 15–20% are due to infections, and the remaining percentage are due to other factors like radiation, stress, physical activity, environmental pollutants etc. (1)

What We Can Do to Prevent Cancer

The logical conclusion that the study reaches is that cancer can be prevented by a major lifestyle change from one that promotes cancer to one that inhibits cancer. (1)

  • Stop smoking
  • Increase amount of fruits and vegetables in the diet
  • Limit alcohol intake
  • Restrict calories (as in fasting or intermittent fasting)
  • Exercise
  • Lose Weight
  • Reduce exposure to toxins via food & drink.
  • Reduce absorption of toxins via using toxic products.
  • Reduce Environmental pollution.
  • Reduce Infections & Inflammation.
  • Avoid excessive sunlight
  • Eat much less meat
  • Use Ginger, Curcumin & Other Spices.
  • Eat wholegrains (1)
These major lifestyle changes are simply creating conditions for health to thrive by not overly burdening the body with excessive toxic input daily, as we’re encouraged to do, this is key to prevent cancer growing.

Our bodies are adaptable and when given a fighting chance will often survive and even thrive despite many challanges.

In the current challanging cancer climate, learning ways that may prevent cancer growing such as detoxification and creating a life that nourishes, allows for rest, fresh foods, exercise, fresh air and less stress is crucial to our wellbeing.
